Made

2001

Director: Jon Favreau

Cinematographer: Christopher Doyle

Stars: Jon Favreau, Vince Vaughn, Peter Falk, Famke Janssen, Sean Combs

For those of you wondering why the hell a review for this film is on this site, the cinematography was done by long-time Wong Kar-Wai collaborator Christopher Doyle. His touch adds a nice bit of style to a genre which often suffers from average camerawork -- but don't expect any kind of Hong Kong-style dual gun action here, or Doyle's usual manic "stop-printing" style.

In actuality, this is a pretty funny take on the gangster movie. Favreau and Vaughn star as two guys low on the mob totem pole who are sent to New York by their boss (Peter Falk) to assist Combs (yes, Puff Daddy) on a job -- but their inexperience and bumbling threatens the job (and their lives) from the start. Overall, Made isn't as good as Favreau/Vaughn's previous collaboration Swingers, but it is a good film in its' own right, especially if you are a fan of gangster movies (there are quite a few cameos of notable genre actors). In no way is this close to classics like Goodfellas, but it's a decent way to kill some time on a rainy day.
